Michelle Obama appeared on Jay Leno last night to chat about the final legs of her husband's presidential bid. She looked fab doing so and when asked about her wardrobe told Jay "...this is a J.Crew ensemble." More power to Mrs. Obama for looking fab without spending a fortune.

The pencil skirt is still available as is the cardigan though not in the same Golden Yellow Michelle is wearing.

While browsing Forever21 this weekend "JOAN CLAYTON" popped in my head from time to time. Any fan of the retired sitcom "Girlfriends" know exactly what I'm talking about. Joan's style was classic and clean with a touch of boldness.....perfection in my book! Joan came to mind because of the earth tone volume cut tops and dresses, oversized clutches (the clutch below is huge in person!), and (my fave!) oversized hoop earrings. So now I'm thinking W(What).W(Would).J(Joan).D(Do?). Below I displayed a few pieces, all from Forever21, and created an outfit that screamed "JOAN"! Designer Collaborations have been all over the place lately from the Go International Collections at Target to Vera Wang at Kohl's to Karl Lagerfeld at H&M....I for one am starting to despise the term "designer collaboration". When I heard Stella McCartney was doing a collection for LeSportsac I rolled my eyes...I mean come on Stella! You already have a line of activewear with Adidas and have done a collabo with H&M!! Let's try to not oversaturate the market! But then I laid eyes on this beauty and I take it all back. The mix of textures and the neutral colorblocking detail are fabulously on-trend without being too trendy.

I love all the draped backless tops and dresses that have shown up for spring and summer. They are a different kind of sexy..a little more sophisticated than your usual low-plunging v-neck top. But they are almost impossible to wear with a bra...and for those of us that need a little..um support..lol..impossible to wear without looking like a fashion tragedy. This flirty dress with it's draped back and bandeau style across the middle back are a perfect fit for my desire to go backless and wear my fave strapless...perfecto!

It's official...the head honchos at Topshop have finally signed a lease for space here in Manhattan!!! Rumors are swirling of an October 2008 grand opening in Soho. What's Topshop you ask? Well..it's been labeled the world's best cheap-chic store. That's right it's cheap AND chic AND crossing the pond shortly. As far as shopping goes...February sucks. All the stores are starting to put out spring merchandise and here in NYC there is still snow on the ground and a major chill in the air. I recently spotted these carved wedges by Stella McCartney and instantly fell in love. The 60's vibe of the wood sole and denim detail is too cute for words and would go perfect with the shift dresses that we'll be wearing in a few months! But for some reason these are priced at $1,195! No, I am not joking...$1,195 for something that is essentially all manmade materials! But the good part of seeing spring merchandise early in the season is knowing what will be hot...what will be sooo hot that companies like Steve Madden (aka the Copycat King) can't help but to make a more wallet-friendly version. We will be on the lookout. But if you're on your way to St. Tropez and can't wait, Neiman Marcus has you covered..
